Video Shoot for Jo Blankenburg / Position Music, Czech Republic, 05/2012

May 22nd, 2012

Back from a super exciting video shoot with my brother Jo Blankenburg in the Czech Republic. For his 2nd music trailer album released by Position Music, Los Angeles we traveled to the sophisticated Cinematic Concert Hall in the Czech Republic.

I was geared up to teeth with my fancy filming gadgets: steady cam (hell! that’s a mission controlling this wiggling piece of iron), Dolly (ok, a small rail but effective) and a handful of tripods.

This was a welcome change for me. I usually capture athletes in their surroundings – this being my main focus, but once in the concert hall, filming these expert violinists up–close and seeing their fingers race across the strings, I realized that this could be just another extreme sports discipline.

3 days packed with 14 hours per day of recording and filming more than 130 (!) members of the orchestra topped by the young, 12 year-old singer Dominik and the very old, but never less experienced score reader Igor. Last-but-not-least not to forget the coordinator and phantastic conductor of Capellen Orchestra Petr Pololanik who managed confidently the tight schedule.

Now we’re in the cutting room and in the next weeks there will be a promotion video released at my brothers and my youtube – channel.

We’ll keep you updated on our Facebook pages: https://www.facebook.com/andy.fox.globalstoryteller https://www.facebook.com/jo.blankenburg

Here come some frame-grabs of the raw HD video footage:

Magazine Publication – FIT FOR FUN 05/2012

May 14th, 2012

Assigned by FIT FOR FUN magazine I was eye-witnessing and portraying the preparations of Herbert Nitsch‘s Apnoe world record attempt called “BREITLING Extreme 800”. His goal is no less than diving down more than 240m in his own designed and developed, torpedo-shaped underwater sled:

Making-Of Mountainbike Photo Shoot, Innsbruck, 04/2012

May 3rd, 2012

20 hours packed with action: from getting up really early at night catching the morning light to the 2200m high mountain very very breezy bike snow shoot. Eventually finding our place of places in the blue hour of the day with the stunning mountainous  landscape in the background.

Overall we’ve been happy receiving the permission to shoot in this outrageous, organic-like architecture. Here come some making-of shots:

Photo Shoot for ARENA, Tenerife, Canary Islands, 02/2012

February 28th, 2012

Back from a super-intense ARENA photoshoot at the training camp of the German Olympic swimming team on Tenerife Island.

It’s been mind-blowing seeing guys like Paul Biedermann or Marco di Carli pacing through the pool. Or even hitting it hard in the swimming channel at a counter-current of 2.5 meters.

Marco Di Carli as well inspired and encouraged me trying some new underwater angles and perspectives.

Best moment definitely was being asked by one of the top swimmers if I can swim. So I had to pull up my reputation the next day by lying on the ground of the pool for 2 minutes waiting for the water surface becoming flat and glassy.

Photo Shoot for ‘Fit for Fun’ magazine, Santorini, Greece, 10/2011

November 2nd, 2011

My Apnoe-addiction got a sequel when ‘Fit for Fun’ – magazine rang me up to cover the preparations and testing of Herbert Nitsch’s brandnew, yellow- painted underwater rocket-sled on the beautiful island of Santorini in Greece.

Accompanied by text editor Gunnar we spent an incredible and stunning day on Herbert’s catamaran.

The entire story will be published in ‘Fit for Fun’ – magazine, issue June or July 2012 parallel to Herbert Nitsch’s official world record attempt – backed up by his sponsor BREITLING – when he aims to crack the 250m barrier in depth.

Due to that postponed publication date I unfortunately cannot post any high end photos.

Instead I’ll provide some ‘Making-Of’ – shots:

Photo Shoot for outdoor magazine, Drei Zinnen, Dolomites, 09/2011

October 10th, 2011

Assigned by ‘outdoor magazine‘ I was booked to photo shoot the ascent to the ‘Grosse Zinne’ summit.

In celebration of MAMMUT’s 150th birthday adventure teams all over the planet are gathering to conquer 150 peaks worldwide until August 2012.

Our three alpine guides, Lucas, Hubert and Flavio were doing a great job and securing us six climbers. We spent an exciting and high-on-adrenaline day in the pictoresque mountain sceneries of the Dolomites.

The entire story will be published in outdoor magazine, issue #1 / 2012.

Photo Shoot with Danish Apnoe divers, Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, 07/2011

August 6th, 2011

While on photo production with German Apnoe diver Anna von Boetticher for several German magazines I met up with the “Danish Dynamite” Apnoe team: Jakob, Rune, Carsten, Kristian.

All of them managed to break their personal bests. After their record attempts we played around in the pristine, crystal clear waters of the Red Sea in front of the Only One Apnea Center

Eventually we were icing the day up with an excessive party. Our feet were scrubbing the sand to some good old-school beats.

You can find all of the images in full scale in my “Sports & Motion” – section either.

Photo Shoot with Apnoe diver Anna von Boetticher, Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, 07/2011

July 10th, 2011

I am really overwhelmed getting the chance diving into the freediving scene.

Marco, the chief of Only One Apnea Center in Sharm El-Sheikh/Egypt and Andrea Zuccari, the Swiss Apnoe champion were teaching me – literally – some breath-taking techniques from which I never heard before.

I can only highly recommend the Only One Apnea Center to anybody who’s interested in learning the proper free diving techniques. And of course for those ones wanting to get rid of  their old-fashioned, faulty, ugly style – like me;-)

We found perfect locations all over the hotel resort as we are almost alone to ourselves. Not to mention the underwater reef scenery and crystal clear water quality accompanied by a huge fish variety.

Next week I’ll be covering Anna’s world record attempt of 130m.

There will be underwater, lifestyle and portrait images as well as settings with her tandem partner Andrea Zuccari with whom she gained the tandem world record a couple of weeks ago. The clients are german and international lifestyle, economy and sport magazines.

Here come some first impressions, making-of’s etc:

Photo Trip – Syrian Arab Republic #1

April 14th, 2010

Basically it’s a hell of a mission connecting to the internet when you are traveling rudimentary in Syria. But eventually we managed to sneak into an open WLAN in Hama, our second stop after the last two days spending in the capital of Syria, Damascus, the eldest inhabitant city of the world. And you can feel and anticipate the age and tradition sparkling out of the rugged buildings. The people are one of the friendliest I’ve ever met – open-minded and interested in foreign culture and humans. Coincidentally we already met two journalists who gave us a bit of an impetus in syrian history. Well, a bit of a downside: facebook and other social networks are filtered and not accessible here in Hama…hm…we’ve to respect that…for sure!
