Making-Of Mountainbike Photo Shoot, Innsbruck, 04/2012

May 3, 2012

20 hours packed with action: from getting up really early at night catching the morning light to the 2200m high mountain very very breezy bike snow shoot. Eventually finding our place of places in the blue hour of the day with the stunning mountainous  landscape in the background.

Overall we’ve been happy receiving the permission to shoot in this outrageous, organic-like architecture. Here come some making-of shots:

I was finally back to Mono Lake for my second visit. The first visit here with the bootcamp crew wasn’t so pleasant. Hwy 120 was closed due to snow. We attempted try to hike to the lake through 3 feet of snow, and that was a complete disaster as well, so coming back to this location for another try was very exciting to me. The excitement was sucked completely out of me when I saw that there where crystal clear blue skies when I arrived. At one point this guy comes up to me about an hour before sunset and said “wow look at this light, it gets no better than this.” I’m not sure what light this guy was seeing, but believe me the light was not great, especially at the time that he was talking about. I was somewhat discouraged, but when I arrived I saw reflections of the tufas everywhere. I figured I’d concentrate on the reflections than photograph this wide view with an uninteresting sky. I walked around over an hour to see if I could see a comp that I would like to possibly shoot once the sun fell behind the mountains. Although there were clear blue skies, I knew that there would be some type of afterglow towards the east and if I stuck around I may be able to make something happen. The water was completely still, the reflections were like glass. It was somewhat eerie to see the water so still. Sure enough the afterglow came. I wasn’t expecting the glow to be this intense. The glow on the horizon was incredible. When I took my first shot, I couldn’t believe how clean the raw file was. I didn’t use any filters at all. No CPL no grad….nothing. One exposure.

Hello this is somewhat of off topic but I was wanting to know if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML.
I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding experience so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!

The weather conditions on top of Monadnock average about 10 degrees cooler than the valleys below not including wind chill. A rainstorm may be snow or ice higher up on the mountain. Mount Monadnock generally has better and more fair weather than in the northern mountains of the northeast which can be obscured by clouds and fog as often as the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. In spring and fall be prepared for brisk cold conditions on top and bring a windbreaker, gloves and fleece. In the summer the afternoons can be hot, be sure to bring at least 2 quarts of water. Allow at least 3-4 hours to hike directly up and down the mountain, if storms are likely there isn’t any shelter and the mountain is very exposed so choose another day. In winter do not wear any cotton and be prepared for sub-zero wind chills and icy trail conditions. For more information about hiking safety and weather, click; Hiking Safety.
